About
Judge Sarah Jones
Born and raised on a farm
in Elwood, Circuit Judge Sarah Jones brings to the bench common sense,
decency and fairness. The daughter of a Teamster and a school teacher,
Judge Jones has devoted her professional career to public service.
Appointed to the bench by the Illinois Supreme Court in January 2007,
she presides over a high volume court call, setting bonds on those
charged with everything from simple battery to murder.
Judge
Jones served the people of Will County for 13 years as an assistant
state's attorney. Working in every criminal division of the office, she
prosecuted murderers, child pornographers, sex offenders and drunk
drivers. She served as a supervisor in the misdemeanor division,
was chief of the auto theft unit and eventually rose to become a
supervisor in the felony division. Judge Jones was also a member of the
Capital Litigation Trial bar, an elite group of attorneys qualified to
try death penalty cases.
Judge
Jones is a graduate of Providence Catholic High School, (New Lenox, IL)
Class of 1984. She received her bachelor's degree in history from
Creighton University in 1988 and received her law degree from Drake
University School of Law in 1991.
As a member of the
Will County Bar Association Board of Directors Judge Jones works
with other members of the bench and bar to help ensure the
continued professionalism of Will County lawyers. She is also a
member and former vice-president of the Zonta Club of the Joliet
Area, an international organization composed of women in
business and the professions working to advance the status of
women locally and worldwide.
